Pervalong Finish!

I finally finished my pervalong quilt hosted by Charlotte from Displacement Activity!

Finished size is approximately 36" x 36". I had a great time putting this paper pieced quilt together! I kept it scrappy for the back incorporating all of the purples.

At first I wasn't sure about the quilting. I wanted the fabric placement to shine and the varying colors made it difficult to determine how to quilt this piece.

I ended up going with dense quilting approximately 1/4" inch apart in a diamond shape. I also changed my thread color as I moved outward from the center.

I believe their are a total of 4 thread colors in the middle. Dark purple, medium purple, light purple, and light grey. The exterior square quilting is approximately 1/2" apart in black.

Again I was a bit perplexed about the quilting. I didn't want to do FMQ because I was concerned the fabric and quilting patterns would be competing with each other. I choose a bit less dense (1/2" apart) quilting instead.

Overall I am very happy with how this quilt turned out. It definitely was a challenge for me with numerous paper piecing blocks but it was great to do something new! I especially loved seeing all of the other Pervy quilts being completed in the various colors. The Flickr group is definitely a board full of inspiration!

  7. Amazing. I have a lot to learn about doing straight line type quilting. Can't wait to see this quilt in person.

  11. I really like the pattern you made in this quilt. I cant find the correct word on how to describe my feeling for it but I think its awesome in some weird pattern way. I hope you understand what I mean. It feels new and fresh but maybe its just that I havent seen anything like it before. Really cool. ;)
